Potsdam girls settle for scoreless draw; Massena surges past OFA


Potsdam Central played to a scoreless draw with Gouverneur while Massena Central surged to a 4-0 win on the road over OFA in NAC Central Division varsity girls soccer action on Thursday.

Potsdam 0, Gouverneur 0: At the Potsdam Central turf field, Bre Sapp handled the four shots she faced for the division leading Lady Sandstoners (11-1-2, 9-1-2).

Taylor Andrews made 12 saves for the Lady Wildcats (7-4-1, 6-4-1).

Massena 4, OFA 0: At the Kennedy School field in Ogdensburg, the Lady Raiders (8-6, 7-5) took control with a pair of goals late in the first half. Emily Wilmshurst opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute and Carlie Leary quickly pushed the lead to 2-0 by converting off an assist from Serena Hall just six minutes later.

Hall and Abby Laclair added unassisted goals in the 16th and 25th minutes of the second half to seal the win.

Bailey Young handled two shots backstopping the shutout while Jordyn Marcellus made 14 saves for OFA (2-12, 2-11).

In the other two Central games on Thursday, Franklin Academy downed Salmon River 5-0 and Canton outscored Norwood-Norfolk 2-0.

FA 5, Salmon River 0: At Fort Covington, Katelyn Fouse anchored a balanced effort by the Lady Huskies (9-4-1, 8-3-1) with a goal and assist. Abigail Collins, Maggie Albu, Gabrielle Collins and Katie Lamica netted the other goals while Jayme Lavoie fielded two shots working the crease for the shutout.

Wraven Sunday made 15 saves for the Lady Shamrocks (4-11, 4-9).

Canton 2, N-N 0: In Norfolk, the visiting Lady Bears (11-3, 9-3) built a 2-0 halftime lead on unassisted goals by Lindsay Proulx in the 15th minute and Kali Frank in the 29th and made it stand for the win.

Katie Clemmer had six stops working the crease for the shutout while Megan Plumb stood tall making 25 saves for the Lady Flyers (1-12, 1-11).


In the three West Division girls soccer matchups on Thursday, Heuvelton clinched sole possession of the regular season title with a 3-0 win over Hammond, Lisbon beat Edwards-Knox 3-0 and Hermon-DeKalb outcored Harrisville 3-1. The lone boys soccer game of the day saw Harrisville outlast West Division rival Hermon-DeKalb 2-1.
