Candidates forum marred by cheap stunt

On Oct. 10, the Cape Vincent Improvement League hosted a Meet the Candidates event. The public was invited, and each candidate was given five minutes to introduce themselves.

Then refreshments were served, and everyone had a chance to mingle. I appreciate the work in organizing this annual event.

What I didn’t appreciate was being approached by a woman who stood at the exit and handed a paper, which turned out to be a political flier. It was so inappropriate that I assumed none of the candidates could have known prior about this.

Sadly, this was not the case. Posted on a local website was the following: “At tonight’s Meet the Candidates Night, sponsored by the Cape Vincent Improvement League, the following handout was made available to the Cape Vincent voting public by Hirschey, Oswald, Bragdon, Republican team.”

I’m sorry this nice event had to be cheapened in this way. Shame on you.

If I had any doubts before, I certainly don’t now. I wholeheartedly support restoring balance to the Town Board by voting for Al Wood, Dennis Pearson, Paul Aubertine and Betty Pearson.
