POTSDAM - The Board of Directors of the Potsdam Humane Society (PHS) has approved entering into a formal relationship with the Northern New York Community Foundation to administer a permanent endowment fund for the organization’s long-term growth and sustainability.

PHS provides service to 11 municipalities in St. Lawrence County and has been in operation for over 50 years.

“Partnerships are important for all non-profits, but especially for the Potsdam Humane Society. We see our partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation as a critical step toward developing a more sustainable financial foundation for the PHS.

“With a shared mission to serve the north country region and the help from generous, compassionate donors, PHS and the NNYCF’s collaboration will help ensure that compassionate care is provided to more than 1,000 animals per year and that a valuable community service continues for another 50 years.” PHS board President Carrie M. Tuttle said.

This partnership provides added options for donors interested in supporting PHS for both short- and long-term needs. The endowment fund established at NNYCF also ensures that that any gifts made to the fund are properly administered in perpetuity.

“This collaboration is central to why community foundations exist. Beyond grants and scholarships, we are primarily a conduit connecting donors and their interests, providing long-term oversight. We are honored to be asked to help maximize their ability to raise resources to support their important work and mission,” said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director.

The newly created endowment fund can receive all types of gifts, as well as be a resource for those doing legacy and estate planning who want added certainty their gift will provide support forever.

The Northern New York Community Foundation works with individual and corporate donors, as well as non-profit organizations and schools, to enhance the overall value of their missions and interests.
