The Jefferson County Local Development Corp. has hired F. Marshall Weir III as director of marketing and Dawn M. Caccavo as assistant chief financial officer.
The two professionals started work Monday at the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency office, 800 Starbuck Ave. Mr. Weir has filled the position previously held by Mary Anne Hanley, who retired in August. Mrs. Caccavo will assist Chief Financial Officer Lyle V. Eaton with daily operations.
Mr. Weir, 38, previously served as general manager of the Watertown-based North Country Farms flour mill since 2010.
I was waiting for the right opportunity that I could grow with, said the Watertown native, who graduated from Immaculate Heart High School in 1992. The most important thing for me is helping grow the community and enrich peoples lives through job creation.
Mr. Weir graduated in 1996 from St. Michaels College, Colchester, Vt., with a bachelors degree in economics. He served as a marketing manager for JLaP Marketing, Watertown, from 1998 to 2009. There, he traveled across the country and overseas to develop marketing plans for clients of the company, which markets packaged products.
Mr. Weir will serve in a similar capacity at the agency by working directly with businesses seeking economic development opportunities.
Ill be charged to come up with the best effective means for targeting companies, and there will be a retooling and an updating of our marketing plan, he said.
Mrs. Caccavo, 40, previously worked for Brookfield Renewable Power as a financial analyst and has more than 18 years of accounting experience. In 2005, she earned a bachelors degree in business administration from Columbia College, Columbia, Mo. She moved to Watertown last year from Alpine, Texas, after her husband, Rodney J., was transferred to serve in Ogdensburg for the U.S. Border Patrol.
The thing that attracted me here is that Ive always been involved in community organizations, Mrs. Caccavo said. Im excited to get out in the community here.
Donald C. Alexander, JCLDC CEO, said more than 60 applicants applied for both openings at the agency, all of whom were qualified.
This was one of the best batches of candidates weve ever had, he said.
Mr. Weir will earn an annual salary of $49,000, and Mrs. Caccavo will make $45,000.
