Robert J. Makela, 56 of Lorraine, died Sunday morning at his home under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his family. There will be a Celebration of Life in his memory Wednesday October 23, from 2 - 6pm at the South Jefferson VFW Post 5344, VFW Drive, Adams. His family requests in lieu of flowers donations made to the South Jefferson Post 5344 Mens Auxiliary, VFW Drive, Adams, NY 13605. Mr. Makela is survived by two sons, Robert H. Lorraine, Anthony (Stephanie) Milliken, CO., one daughter Mellisa Makela, Cazenovia, one granddaughter Ariana Rose Makela, Oswego; two sisters Debby (Jim) Mickelson, Pelzer, SC., Bonnie (Charles) Fear, Mystic, Conn., nieces and nephews and a good friend and caregiver Hank Graham. He is predeceased by a sister Katherine M. Ray.
Bob was born November 29, 1956 in Montour Falls son of Howard F. and Martha Huey Makela. He graduated from Newfield High School following which he joined with his father in operating the family farm which he eventually purchased.
He married Polly Covert of Trumansburg November 8, 1980. The marriage ended in divorce.
Bob retired in 1999 and moved to Lorraine. He was an avid sportsman enjoying turkey and deer hunting , fishing and truck pulls. He was a member of the Mens Auxiliary at the South Jefferson VFW Post, Adams. Arrangements are with the Piddock funeral Home, Adams.
