POTSDAM - The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce will be honoring Potsdam resident Gregory Bouchard with an Outstanding Citizen Honor at its annual dinner on Nov. 13.
Mr. Bouchard is most known as the creator of Hankfest, an annual music event in Potsdam that celebrate country music while raising money for a local charity.
The event grew out of the love his parents and he had for country music, specifically Hank Williams Sr. and Patsy Cline.
It has raised funds for a variety of local charities including the American Red Cross, The Warner Cancer Treatment Center, Potsdam Humane Society, Hospice, The Birthplace at CPH, Boys & Girls Club of Ogdensburg, and Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country.
Greg works tirelessly year round on this event, chamber Director Marylee Ballou said. He is always looking for a way to make it bigger, better, and more recognized not just in Potsdam but nationwide.
The event is being renamed for its ninth year in 2014 to the Country Legends Festival and will be held on Aug.9.
Mr. Bouchard volunteers his time to working and helping area businesses and organizations. He is involved with the St. Mary Catholic Church and has served as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus.
He is also a member of the Potsdam Kiwanis Club and serves on the Potsdam Chamber Events & Festivals Committee. He also helps call bingo for the senior residents at Debra Drive and is always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Greg visits many Potsdam merchants on a weekly if not daily basis. His visiting is just another way for Greg to show his interest and caring for the community. He always asks how you and your family are.
He is one of the kindest, most compassionate and caring individuals I have ever met. Greg doesnt have a lot, but what he has, he gives back in spades, said one supporter. He cared for his mother while she was ill, and the loss of her this summer has been difficult, but Greg is moving forward and living his life the way his mom wanted caring for others.
Mr. Bouchard will be recognized at the Potsdam Chambers dinner on Nov. 13, with a 6 p.m. mixer and 6:30 p.m. dinner. Reservations can be made by contacting the Potsdam Chamber at 315-274-9000 by Nov. 1.
