Doris M. deBerjeois Whelan, 77, of Fairmount and formerly of Chaumont passed through the gates of Heaven on Friday after a short illness. The daughter of the late Elwood and Lillian deBerjeois, Doris was born April 18, 1936 in East Orange, NJ. She graduated from Eastwood High School and Powelson Business Institute. Doris recently retired from Jefferson Community College. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard “Dick” Whelan on January of 2012 and a brother Elwood (Deb) deBerjeois.

Left to cherish Doris’s memory are her five loving children, Erin (Ron) Togni, Sheri (George) Goldthwaite, Jeffrey (Mary-Ann McGriff) Whelan, Timothy (Marilyn) Whelan and Debra Champouillon, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am on Thursday at Holy Family Church. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens. Calling hours will from 5 – 8 pm on Wednesday at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 S. Salina St., Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Palliative Medicine Services in c/o Crouse Health Foundation.

Doris’s children would like to give special thanks to all the staff at Crouse Hospital for their assistance in providing care for Doris and assistance to her family as well.
