OFA Girls top M-W in volleyball


MADRID - Recording their third straight 3-0 victory the OFA Girls Volleyball team downed Madrid-Waddington 25-15, 25-21, 25-17 in NAC West action on Monday.

The Devils moved with one game of front-running Potsdam (8-1 after loss to Edwards-Knox on Monday), in the NAC West).

“We recognized seniors in co-captain Brittani Dawley, Janelle Trembley, Hannah Austin and Alyssa Ryan before the match and they all played well,” said M-W Coach Troy Creuer.

“The girls all played very hard tonight but OFA was just too much.”

Leading the M-W (4-11, 3-6) efforts were Dia Richards with 13 poi nts and five assists and Jazmine Trombley with six digs and four points.”

The Blue Devils (11-4, 7-2), who will host Edwards-Knox in their senior match on Thursday, were led by what coach Sue McLean called a “very solid effort.”

“We had a very good core effort tonight and used a new receiving formation very well,” she said.

“We have been talking about the mottos of play offense like a smart person and play defense like a crazy person. The girls really carried them out today.”

A well distributed effort led by a 14-point, 13 assist double-double by Emma Hart (7 aces, 4 kills, 1 dig), Adrianna Compo (12 points, 3 assists, 6 digs, 2 kills), Taylor Fisher (7 points, 4 aces, 9 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks) and Terry Perry (12 assists, 3 digs, 4 kills, 5 points).

Rounding out the effort were: Sky Hoover (6 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs), Paige Perry (4 kills, 2 points, 1 dig), Jenny Dalton (2 points), Grace Mashaw (1 point) and Jessie Logan (2 digs) and excellent support play by Sarah Richer, Brooke Richards and Shanice Wallace.

E-K 3 - Potsdam 0: “The Edwards-Knox girls really worked hard and we just had an off night,” said coach Julia Pahler after the Lady Sandstoners fell in three straight sets 26-25, 25-14, 25-17 in suffering their first loss to a division rival.

PThe duo of Victoria Mondragon (5 aces, 2 kills) and Erica Mason (1 ace) led Potsdam.

Canton 3, Gouverneur 0: The host Lady Bears were led by Rachel Sanderson with 12 points, two aces and two assists. Megan Howard tallied eight points and two kills.

Mackenzie McBride (11 points, 4 aces, 2 digs), Lauren Infield (5 points, 1 ace), Raelelle Durham (3 kills, 2 digs, 2 points) and Autumn Ashley (7 sets, 2 assists, 1 kill, 2 digs) led Gouverneur’s efforts.
