Lisbon earns chance to play for NAC West Boys Soccer title at Harrisville on Friday

LISBON - When Lisbon visits Harrisville on Friday in a NAC West Division showdown for boys soccer there will be much on the line.

For several teams.

If Lisbon (12-2-1, 11-1-1) were to beat the 13-1-1, 12-0-1 Pirates the Golden Knights would earn a share of the NAC West crown for the second straight season.

A Lisbon win could also make it very interesting in the Section 10 Class D seeding where three teams get a first round bye and a group of teams are in the running.

On Tuesday, Lisbon started a little slow but earned a 5-2 win over 4-10-1, 4-8-1 Hammond to create Friday’s scenario and the Pirates earned a 3-0 shutout at Heuvelton. Edwards-Knox earned a 5-1 decision over Clifton-Fine in the other contest.

Lisbon 5, Hammond 2: Converting a chance aided by a stiff win Hammond’s Brock Tulley scored on a breakway in the 18th minute of play for a 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights regrouped before halftime scoring twice and connected for the first three goals in the second half to secure the win.

“Hammond really took advantage in the first half with the wind,” said LCS coach Bill Reed.

Kane Jordan answered for a 1-1 tie for Lisbon from Don Duprey in the 34th and Pedro Janini made it 2-1 a minute later from Adam Kelley. Jake Putney scored from Kelley in the fourth minute of the second half and Janini’s second goal came off a Kelley assist for a 4-1 lead. Ryan Mason made it 5-1 midway through the second half unassisted before Jaylin Raglin scored from Alex Folkesson in the 60th minute for a 5-2 final.

Nick Jewitt made 10 saves for 4-10-1, 4-8-1 Hammond and Jim Robinson had one save for Lisbon (12-2-1, 11-1-1).

Hammond 3 , Heuvelton 0: Jared Dreythaler opened scoring from Chris Sullivan in the 13th minute and Sullivan connected from Nathan Weaver in the 48th before Justin Hartle closed the door unassisted in the 53rd.

Zane Mono made three saves for the 13-1-1, 12-0-1 Pirates and Zach Lashomb made 15 saves for Heuvelton (4-9-2, 3-8-2).

Edwards-Knox 5, Clifton-Fine 0: Kaden Dandrow, Tucker O’Brien, Hunter Tuttle, Nic Davis and Abe White all scored for the Cougars (7-7-1, 6-7 NAC West) at home. Dandrow, Davis, White, Derek Clark, Dylan Jeanette also contributed an assist as Rich Finnerty made three saves in the shutout. Jordan Planty made 12 saves for Clifton-Fine (0-15-1, 0-14 NAC West).
