CANTON — The Norfolk woman accused of scamming a priest and his parish of $300,000 pleaded not guilty to additional grand larceny charges Wednesday.

Appearing in St. Lawrence County Court, Bobbie Jo Zeller, 36, of 72 W. Main St., Apt. 4, faced two counts of third-degree grand larceny. She is accused of swindling Gloria J. Dietze, Potsdam, out of more than $3,000 from August 2011 to September 2012, with stories of a sick son and problems paying her bills, Ms. Dietze told police in May.

Zeller was already being held in the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $300,000 cash or $600,000 bond on two counts of second-degree grand larceny, two counts of third-degree grand larceny and one count of first-degree scheme to defraud for allegedly.

Additionally, District Attorney Nicole M. Duve’s office filed a motion challenging St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards’s Sept. 24 dismissal of three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument that were brought against Zeller based on “lack of legally sufficient evidence,” arguing the checks were counterfeit, which falls under the forgery statute.

Judge Richards has reserved his decision and will issue a written decision at a later date.
