Potsdam girls clinch title downing ofa


POTSDAM - After falling short in their first attempt to clinch sole possession of NAC Central title, the Potsdam Central girls soccer team sealed the deal with a 6-0 win over OFA in the regular season finale for both teams.

At their turf field, the Lady Sandstoners scored two goals 39 seconds apart in the third minute of the game.

OFA will look to earn another game with the top-seeded Sandstoners in travelling to Salmon River on Monday for the Fifth seed vs. Fourth seed of the Section 10 Class B tournament.

Kalie Grant opened the scoring 2:12 into the game assisted by Ally Miller. Annette Rishe then broke through for the first of her four goals 39 seconds later. Eighth-grader Hannah Drechsel also scored while Grant finished with a pair of helpers.

Bre Sapp was credited with two saves backstopping the shutout. and Jordyn Marcellus fielded four shots for OFA (1-3, 2-12).

In other NAC Central finales Massena capped a fast finish blanking Salmon River 4-0 led by two goals from Iastha Porter and Malone checked Norwood-Norfolk 4-0as Katie Lamica, Katelyn Fouse, Lauren Reynolds and Hannah Perry netted the goals while Abigail Collins fashioned a pair of assists.

Generating 22 shots on goal the OFA Junior Varsity Girls Soccer team tied Potsdam 1-1 on Thursday.

“All of the girls played well today. We kept the ball in their end for most of the game, but just couldn’t get another goal. We had 22 shots on net and the girls’ passing has really improved,” said OFA Coach Renee Tebo.

Right-wing Erin Tooley scored at 18:59 in the first half, after a scramble in front of the net. Potsdam scored at 27:42 in the first half.

“Erin is such a solid player. She runs through every ball and never backs down” said Coach Tebo.

“Jill Lincoln, Jadienne Averill, Kelsey Pinkerton, and Abby Marshall hustled on defense. Ali Moore, Natalee Ryan, Ashley Barr, and Claire Mallette controlled the midfield and Lexi Kennedy, Kiera Johnson, and Sarah Bracy moved the ball well on offense.

OFA keeper Alicia Garcia finished with 10 saves.

In OFA Swim action, the Devils earned a 117-50 win at Gouverneur. Results will appear in Saturday’s paper.
