Cape town officials ask PSC staff to visit Thousand Islands region

CAPE VINCENT — Town officials invited state Public Service Commission staff to visit the region where BP wants to build a 124-turbine wind farm.

“Without that first-hand understanding, how can they appreciate what is at stake?” town Supervisor Urban C. Hirschey said in a letter dated Tuesday to the PSC. “I would be more confident if I knew that PSC staff people had spent some time up here.”

Mr. Hirschey said he could arrange for a motorboat cruise or even a helicopter flyover.

“Come on up and take it all in. Compare the stark landscape of Wolfe Island with its turbines vs. the hills, vegetation and beauty of Cape Vincent. Then you will understand why we want to protect the Cape,” he said.
