Police investigating assault of a SLU student

CANTON — Village police are investigating an alleged assault on West Street that left a St. Lawrence University student with minor injuries just after 11 p.m. Friday.

Police did not release the name of the victim, who was walking on West Street from Miner Street when she was grabbed by an unknown man who had passed her, according to Sgt. Basil Cheney, one of the investigating officers.

The victim screamed, attracting attention from neighbors in the area, causing the suspect to flee towards Miner Street, police said.

The victim described her attacker as white male, approximately 6 feet tall, balding and wearing blue jeans, a desert tan hoodie and tan boots.

St. Lawrence University sent out a notice of the incident to all students and campus employees Saturday.
