MASSENA - Massena High School was locked down for about 12 minutes Thursday afternoon for what Superintendent William W. Crist described as an “internal situation.”

“There was an internal situation. The principal (Patrick Farrand) felt it was important to keep students out of the hallways. It was a situation where the principal felt it would be helpful for students to be in their classrooms. It was about a 12-minute lockdown,” Mr. Crist said.

Although members of the Massena Police Department responded to the school, he said they were present to provide support.

“It wasn’t anything where students were in an imminent threat of danger. The principal felt it was helpful to keep the school in a tighter situation,” Mr. Crist said.

The lockdown did not affect the afternoon schedule, he said, called the impact “pretty minimal.”
