FAILURE TO KEEP RIGHT - BRASHER - A Brasher Iron Works woman was ticketed for failure to keep right after she struck a tree after losing control of her vehicle Wednesday night on McCarthy Road in the town of Brasher.

Massena-based state police said Chantel E. Rafter, 22, of 2492 County Route 55, Brasher Iron Works, told troopers she was southbound on the McCarthy Road when she swerved to avoid a deer. Troopers said she went off the east side of the roadway, lost control when she tried to return to the road and crossed over to the west shoulder and struck a tree.

Rafter was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital by Tri-Town Rescue for treatment of minor injuries and released following the accident reported at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.



PETIT LARCENY - POTSDAM - Canton-based state police charged Courtney R. Baxter, 19, of Norfolk with petit larceny after responding to a petit larceny complaint at 1:31 p.m. Wednesday at the Potsdam Walmart. Baxter was detained by Walmart loss prevention associates after she allegedly walked past the last point of sale in the store without paying for cosmetics, clothing and vitamins valued at $83.09.





UNLAWFUL POSSESSION - NORFOLK - Massena-based state police charged James S. West, 22, of Norfolk with unlawful possession of marijuana following an incident at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Norfolk. Troopers said the arrest was made 10 minutes later on County Route 48 in the town of Norfolk.
