Potsdam, Canton advance to Section 10 Class B title


Two champions of 2012 will meet for the 2013 Section 10 Class B Girls Soccer championship on Monday at SUNY Canton at 5 p.m. Top seed Potsdam and No. 2 seed Canton both advanced with shutout wins on Wednesday in semi-final action.

Canton 3, Gouverneur 0: After Taylor Andrews stopped three beautiful Canton shots in the first half, a determined Bears’ squad broke through for three second half goals. Kali Frank scored from JV call up Maggie Smith in the 52nd minute. Tori Daley made it 2-0 from Ema Pinckney in the 60th and Lindsay Proulx blasted home a cornerkick in the 70th minute for the Bears (13-4). Katie Clemmer made five saves for the winners. Andrews stopped 16 shots for the Wildcats (9-6-1).

Potsdam 2, Salmon River 0: Two second half goals lifted bthe Stoners 13-2-2 past the Shamrocks (5-13). Kallie Grant scored from Kelsey Green and Ally Miller connected from Grant in the 66th and 76th minute. Bree Sapp made four saves in the shutout. Wraven Sunday stopped eight shots for SR.
