MASSENA: Janet M. Mittiga, 87 of Highland Ave. passed away Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013 at the St. Regis Nursing Home. Janet was born on August 22, 1926 in Ogdensburg, NY the daughter of Edgar and Mae (Thornton) McLean. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and trained at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital as a Medical Lab Technician and worked for St. Lawrence County for 34 years. She married Anthony J. Mittiga on October 24, 1970 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Msgr. David Steinbriener presiding. Mr. Mittiga predeceased her on January 22, 2001. She is survived by her cousins; Joan and Basil Burnham of Massena, Patricia and Irv MacLaren of Fort Covington, Betty Doud of Ogdensburg, sister in-law Mary Boots of Massena, and nephews Charles Boots and Michael Mittiga of Massena. Janet is also survived by several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held Friday Nov. 1, 2013 from 7-9 P.M. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 12:00 Noon Saturday Nov. 2, at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Jack Downs officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Catholic Endowment Fund, the Sacred Heart Church Memorial Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
