MASSENA – Mrs. Beatrice I. Brothers, 85, a longtime resident of Laurel Terrace, passed away Friday morning, November 1, 2013 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since July 2012.

Bea was born July 12, 1928 in Massena, the daughter of the late Frank E. and Ella Mae Neverette Austin and attended schools in Massena. On August 31, 1946, she married Thomas G. Brothers at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Eugene Kelly, officiating. Thomas predeceased her on December 14, 1988.

Bea was a homemaker and once worked at the Schine Inn in Massena. She also sold AVON and Friendly Home Products for many years. She was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Bea enjoyed playing bingo and putting puzzles together.

She is survived by her five children, Daniel T. and Jazmin Brothers of Massena; Thomas G. Jr. and Sandra Brothers of Newburg, MD; Bonny and John Becksted of Satsuma, FL; Anne and David Bouchard of Massena; and Suzanne Mitchell of Plattsburgh. Bea is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

Bea was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Mae Brothers on May 24, 1952; a son, David T. Brothers on March 18, 1987; a grandson, Joshua Mitchell; and a granddaughter, Amy Becksted.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside memorial service will held Saturday, November 9, 2013, 10:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery, Massena, with Rev. Scott D. Fobare, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s/St. Joseph’s Memorial Fund.
