SUNY Canton volleyball falls to Daemen in USCAA quarterfinals


CANTON - Daemen swept SUNY Canton 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 in a quarterfinal match in the USCAA Championships to eliminate the host Kangaroos (28-9).

Morgan Bills led SUNY Canton with six kills and Mackenzie Mynter produced 18 assists.

Earlier in the day SUNY Canton dropped two matches in pool play, falling 25-19, 25-20 to Rochester College and 25-19, 25-20 to Florida College.


Clarkson (30-6) won two matches in three games on the opening day of the New York Regional Challenge in Rochester.

The Golden Knights swept Rochester 25-17, 25-10, 25-12 and swept the Stevens Institute of Technology 26-24, 25-15, 25-13.

Victoria Kirkemo produced 23 kills overall for Clarkson and Lani Durio led the Golden Knights with 50 assists.

St. Lawrence University (20-10) fell 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 to New York University in its only match.


Genesee CC 86, Jefferson CC 71: Ervin Mitchell scored 21 points to power the Cougars past the Cannoneers in the first round of the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament in Utica.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Jagger Freeman and Dustin Pond scored 25 and 20 points, respectively, to lead Jefferson Community College. Freeman made 13-of-16 free throws and Pond drained six 3-pointers for JCC, which will play Queensbury at noon today in the consolation game.


Olivia Rettstatt and Nikki Jewett each won two events to help the Saints defeat host Skidmore 137 1/2-93 1/2. The Saints men fell 134-90, falling to 0-2.

Rettstatt won the 1,000-meter freestyle and the 500 freestyle for the Saints (1-1). Jewett added wins in both the one- and three-meter diving competitions.
