CARTHAGE General Brown and Immaculate Heart Central both won heart-stopping, down-to-the wire games in the Section 3 Class C football semifinals Saturday to produce an all-local championship matchup next Sunday in the Carrier Dome.
General Brown (8-1) stopped a 2-point conversion by Utica Notre Dames Kevin Warmack with 36 seconds remaining to preserve a 35-33 win in the first semifinal at Carthage High School.
Mike Marra scored on a 1-yard run with just over a minute left, and Luis Janer then booted the winning PAT as the third-seeded Cavaliers (8-1) earned a 13-12 victory over No. 7 Thousand Islands.
Zech Pitre ran for 162 yards on 26 carries and scored four touchdowns for fifth-seeded General Brown, including the winning 9-yard TD run with 6:23 remaining. Jacob Wojasinski booted five PATs for for the winning margin.
General Brown overcame a spectacular performance by Warmack, who rushed for 254 yards and three scores and passed for 246 more yards and two touchdowns for the No. 8 Jugglers (5-4).
IHC put together an 18-play, 64-yard drive that took over eight minutes to secure the tying touchdown. Austyn Frechette also scored for IHC, which beat General Brown 28-26 during the regular season.
Tavis Anderson scored both touchdowns for the Vikings (5-4), but they missed both PATs.
