Charles Robert (Bob) Hamm, age 65, of Marion, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native of Caldwell County, NC, Mr. Hamm was born November 7, 1947 and was the son of the late Charlie Garmond Hamm and Ellen Blevins Hamm. Charles, who enjoyed visiting flea markets and fishing, retired from Great Lakes Carbon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served for 17 years.He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Bonnie Wacaster Hamm; five children, Charles Robert Hamm II and wife Jackie of Marion, Steven Hamm of Marion, Greg Hamm and wife Heather of New York, Kenneth Hamm and wife Tammy of New York and Tracy Freeman and husband Chris of Georgia; four step children, Joey Austin of Marion, Craig Austin and wife Lisa of Arden, Phillip Ledbetter of Marion and Christopher Ledbetter and wife Jennifer of Kansas; two sisters, Carol Hamm Harmon and husband Bobby of Hudson, NC and Barbara Hamm Hodges of Morganton; thirteen grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one great grandchild and one step great grandchild.A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with Chaplin Bobby Harmon and Mr. Troy Blair officiating. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park with military honors provided by Tri County Chapter 6 Disabled American Veterans and Chapter 84.
