OGDENSBURG — Don’t expect a hotel to set up on Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority property anytime soon.

A request for proposals sent out in July to developers and hotel corporations yielded no replies by last week’s deadline.

OBPA Executive Director Wade A. Davis isn’t giving up.

“While obviously the authority is disappointed there were no responses to the first round of the hotel requests for proposal, Ogdensburg and the greater north country region have an ever-increasing need for tourism-related infrastructure to support the region becoming an overnight destination,” he said.

The authority is promoting the lease or sale of an 11.6-acre parcel at routes 37 and 812 for development of a hotel with additional space for retail and commercial businesses and restaurants.

A 45-page, OBPA-commissioned report by Fisher Associates, Rochester, concluded that the authority has three properties that are suitable for hotel development. They are the routes 37 and 812 site, a 6.5-acre parcel on Kendricks Street overlooking the St. Lawrence River and the 12-acre parcel at Bridge Plaza where the OBPA has its offices.

The Fisher Associates report concluded that the routes 37 and 812 site had “higher potential” for development because of its proximity to traffic on Route 37 and, via Route 812, the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge.

Mr. Davis said a hotel would be a much-needed economic shot in the arm for both the city of Ogdensburg and the region, which he notes “continues to experience difficult economic conditions.”
