The north country will have its own Senior football all-star game for the first time this season.
To be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Watertown High School, the John Arcaro Senior Bowl will feature players from Jefferson and Lewis counties against players from Oswego County.
Players from local schools have always had to travel to Utica or Syracuse to participate in the games. But the Central New York Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame decided to give the north country its own game this season.
Weve been trying to get our own game up here for some time, said former South Jefferson coach Tom LaDuke, who has helped organize and run the games in past years. This way, players and fans both wont have to travel as much for practices or games.
The only negative is that players on the five teams playing in this weekends Section 3 championship games (Carthage, Indian River, Immaculate Heart Central, General Brown and Sandy Creek) will not be able to participate.
