Henderson draws up preliminary budget

HENDERSON — The town’s tax rate and levy are expected to drop slightly, while spending will increase, according to the town’s new preliminary budget.

The rate will decrease 5 percent, from 20 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to 19 cents.

With the new rate, a property valued at $100,000 will be taxed $19.

The town’s levy is $46,494, down about 5.8 percent from the $49,387 raised in the 2013 budget.

The town’s spending is expected to jump about 10 percent in the new budget year, from $2,681,927 to $2,950,000.

“It’s a fair budget,” Supervisor Raymond A. Walker said.

The town, which is reviewing multiple possibilities for the creation of a new town office, is adding $125,000 to its building capital fund, bringing its total to approximately $725,000.

“When we decide to make the building, we’ll have the money,” Mr. Walker said.

A public hearing on the budget will take place at 7 p.m. today at the town office.
