WADDINGTON - An Ogdensburg woman was injured as the result of a one vehicle accident that occurred after she told troopers she had been distracted by a deer in road on Route 28 in Waddington.
Massena-based state police ticketed Diane D. Fitzgerald, 68, of 136 Arnold Road for failure to stop at a stop sign at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday after they say she went through the intersection and struck a sign on the opposite side of the road.
Troopers explained Ms. Fitzgerald was northbound on Route 28 headed toward Waddington when she encountered a deer in the road and became distracted while trying to notify other motorists by flashing her lights at them.
They said she failed to realize she was at the end of the road, slammed on her brakes and skidded through Route 28s intersection with state Route 37, striking a sign post on the opposite side of the road.
Troopers said the Madrid Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the scene, taking Ms. Fitzgerald to the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, where she was treated for a shoulder pain complaint.
