UU Church makes donation to Boys & Girls Club of Massena

CANTON - The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton recently made a donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Massena to support the growing organization.

Massena Police Chief Timmy Currier, president of the BGC Board of Directors, visited the church to accept the $850 contribution.

“We are so appreciative of this generous gift,” Currier said. “It is great that we have such a broad base of support as we get this important program off the ground. Getting backing from Canton is great, and the UU Church is leading the way in giving from churches.”

He said he hopes other north country religious organizations will follow the UU’s lead.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Massena will positively impact the lives of thousands of children and teens, “ explains the organization’s website, “Especially those who need us most, by providing an opportunity to them to live healthy lifestyles, achieve academically and give back.”

Several times a year, Canton’s Unitarian Universalist Church directs the Sunday offering, traditionally used for the church’s operations to an organization outside the church. The goal of the Social Action Shared Offering is to raise money for local, national, and international organizations, while raising awareness about a variety of social justice issues and the groups and organizations that are doing great work to solve the problems and make a tangible difference.

Church members and representatives of the church’s Social Action Committee joined Currier and Interim Minister Joel Miller for the check presentation.

The Unitarian Universalist Church is located at 3 East Main Street, across from the park in downtown Canton. Worship and religious education for children begin at 10:30. To learn more visit
