POTSDAM - The two top seeds both went to overtime before claiming the top prize in the Section 10 Class D soccer championship double-header staged at the Potsdam Central turf field.

In the boys final, NAC West Division champion Harrisville turned back fifth-seeded league rival Morristown 1-0 when Chris Sullivan netted an unassisted goal seven minutes into the first 10-minute session of sudden-victory overtime.

Zane Mono handled the 11 shots he faced backstopping the shutout while Luke King made six saves for the upstart Green Rockets (13-4).

Harrisville (16-1-2) will now get set to take on perennial Section 7 champion and NYSPHSAA tournament contender Chazy at the SUNY Plattsburgh turf field starting at 11 a.m. in the opening round of the state Class D playoffs.

The girls game saw undefeated NAC East Division champion Chateaugay produced the only goal of the game 47 seconds into the second 10-minute overtime en route to defending its sectional title with a 1-0 decision over West Division champion Heuvelton.

Senior Hannah Cook struck for the eventual game-winner by finishing off a play set up by Katie Beach as the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs earned a fifth straight sectional title.

Kennedy Boyea worked the Chateaugay (18-0-1) crease for three saves while Paige McCormick turned aside 13 shots in the only loss of the season for Heuvelton (16-1-2).

Chateaugay, which finished as runner-up in the state tournament last fall, opens this year’s tournament on Saturday against Section 7 champion Chazy at the SUNY Plattsburgh turf field starting at 1 p.m.
