Fort Drum man accused of using counterfeit money

Leonard D. Gray, 26, of 912A Chippewa Drive, Fort Drum, was charged by Watertown police at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday with petit larceny and first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument over an offense that allegedly occurred Oct. 19.

Mr. Gray is accused of stealing Mike’s Hard Lemonade valued at $9.99 from the Nice N Easy, 430 Factory St., by paying for it with counterfeit U.S. currency in the amount of $10.

He also was charged with first-degree possession of a forged instrument in an incident that allegedly occurred Oct. 30 at the Great Wall Chinese restaurant, 300 Arsenal St. He is accused of using counterfeit U.S. $10 and $20 bills to purchase Chinese takeout food from the restaurant.

He was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $30,000 bail.
