DEFERIET — A village resident is planning a veterans social to join together veterans, active duty military members and community members.

Doug Babcock wanted to take the opportunity to recognize veterans as well as the “young active duty.” He said the village had “quite a few veterans” and many military families.

According to Mr. Babcock, a Veterans Day celebration has not been held for a number of years, so he decided to organize one.

The event is set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the village municipal building, 68 Riverside Drive.

The free event is open to all, especially military members and veterans. It will include an opening flag ceremony by the Carthage Central School JROTC, a prayer by Deacon Richard J. Staab of St. James Catholic Church, Carthage, and a recognition of the veterans by village Mayor Janet M. Zando.
