The potential placement of missiles on the East Coast, for which Fort Drum is being considered, received new criticism from a scientist collective.

The Union of Concerned Scientists said Thursday they opposed the placement because of its multibillion-dollar cost, along with technical problems with the missiles.

The group’s concerns echo complaints made by groups such as the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation.

In September, Fort Drum was put on a short list of potential sites for the placement, along with Camp Ethan Allen, Vt.; Camp Ravenna Joint Military Training Center, Ohio; Naval Air Station Portsmouth SERE Training Area, Maine, and Fort Custer Training Center, Mich.

The union’s report can be found at http://wdt.me/KPEPxE.
