Carthage to look into residents’ requests


CARTHAGE — Village trustees told two who spoke during the public forum at last Monday’s meeting they would have to research their issues.

Amanda Gump requested permission to release paper lanterns off Guyot Island as a memorial to women who experienced the death of an infant. The board tabled the request to consult with village attorney Mark G. Gebo.

Former Department of Public Works Superintendent Charles Hoffman came before the board to dispute his retirement pay. The board informed him it would help him obtain employment records; however, he would have to bring up his grievance with the state retirement system.

Village Clerk Kristy L. O’Shaughnessy was instructed to investigate an accident that occurred Oct. 23 on Elm Street during which a fire hydrant was damaged. The village will bill the driver’s insurance for repair and replacement costs.

Lorna Swan, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Americanism chairwoman, presented an American flag to village President G. Wayne McIlroy to replace the worn one at his home.

Trustees agreed to give $100 to the Carthage Lions and Elks to aid with the annual Community Thanksgiving Feast.

Because the bid winner defaulted on the purchase, the 2006 four-wheel drive Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo will again be put out to bid. A minimum bid of $2,500 is required. All bids must be forwarded in a sealed envelope to the village clerk’s office, 120 S. Mechanic St., Carthage, N.Y. 13619. Bids will be opened at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 25.

The board approved closing the village offices Nov. 29 with the employees taking personal or vacation time.
