Brothers Greg and Matt Carey of St. Lawrence Universitys mens hockey team were each honored by ECAC Hockey with weekly awards.
Senior Greg Carey was selected as the conferences player of the week while younger brother and freshman Matt Carey was honored as the leagues rookie of the week.
Greg Carey extended his scoring streak to five games and helped the Saints complete a 2-0-2 start to their conference season. On Friday, he scored the game-winning goal and assisted on another in a 3-1 triumph at Harvard and netted a goal and added three assists in a 8-5 win at Dartmouth Saturday. Greg Carey leads the conference in scoring averaging 2.75 points-per-game on four goals and seven assists. With six goals and 13 assists overall, he ranks second in the country in scoring with 1.90 points-per-game.
Matt Carey registered his first collegiate hat trick as the Saints completed a weekend sweep with the triumph at Dartmouth. He finished with a plus/minus rating of plus-4 on the weekend. He now has a team-leading eight goals and five assists on the season for 13 points, ranking sixth in the nation among rookies with 1.30 points-per-game.
St. Lawrence (6-2-2) is ranked nationally for the first time this season as it stands 17th in the latest USCHO.com poll.
Also on Tuesday, Clarkson University sophomore Greg Lewis was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week after leading the Golden Knights to road wins at Dartmouth and Harvard last weekend.
Lewis gave up only three goals and finished with 48 saves on the weekend. He improved to 6-1 on the season with a 1.86 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
The Golden Knights (9-2-1) are ranked 11th in the USCHO.com, up five spots from last week.
