Watertown man enters guilty plea to rape count


A Watertown man admitted Tuesday in Jefferson County Court that he had sexual intercourse with an incapacitated woman in August 2012.

Russell E. Martin, 37, pleaded guilty to third-degree rape. He admitted that on Aug. 19, 2012, he had intercourse with an 18-year-old female who was incapable of giving consent due to intoxication. He is to be sentenced Jan. 13 to an unspecified amount of time served at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and 10 years’ probation.

In other court activity:

Michael E. Shepherd Jr., 50, of 28685 Gartland Road, Evans Mills, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated driving while intoxicated. He admitted driving while intoxicated Sept. 7 on Gartland Road. Sentencing was set for Jan. 13.

Troy R. Johnson, 45, of 31021 Percy Chicks Drive, Felts Mills, pleaded guilty to DWI as a misdemeanor. He had been charged with felony DWI in May after it was alleged that he was involved in a rollover crash on Route 12 in the town of Brownville with his 13-year-old son in the vehicle. He was subsequently sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and fined $500.

Richard A. Gegeckas, 27, Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of Evans Mills, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DWI and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. It was alleged that he drove while intoxicated Nov. 2, 2012, on Central Street in Watertown while his driver’s license was suspended or revoked. He was subsequently sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and fined a total of $1,500.

Lucas C. Stage, 25, of 825 Rees St., Clayton, was sentenced to five years’ probation and fined $1,000 for Aug. 6 guilty pleas to felony aggravated DWI and resisting arrest. He admitted that he drove while intoxicated on an unspecified date in Clayton and then tried to run from police before being restrained.

Lorie A. Medina, 36, was sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to pay $30,874 in restitution for a May 13 guilty plea to petit larceny. She admitted she stole money from Irene Futcher between January 2010 and August 2011.
