One person was taken to the hospital Wednesday night following a fire at 2 Ober St., Massena. Massena Fire Chief Thomas C. Miller said the occupant of the multi-unit home, who was not identified Wednesday night, dropped a cigarette. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and minor damage was contained to the area of origin. The fire was ruled accidental, he said. Thirty-eight members of the department were on the scene for about an hour. Firefighters were then called out to a report of a boat on fire at 650 North Raquette Road, Massena. Mr. Miller said the boat was floating on the river and they pulled it to shore and extinguished the fire. That case was turned over to New York State Police. (Beckstead Photo)
