To help celebrate “America Recycles Day,” the St. Lawrence County Solid Waste Department and the county Environmental Management Council will offer the free drop-off of recyclables Saturday at transfer stations in Gouverneur, Massena, Ogdensburg and Star Lake.

The promotion does not extend to waste haulers.

Each transfer station will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.

“Our goal for this week is to remind residents that it costs almost nothing to bring your recyclable materials to our transfer stations,” county Recycling Coordinator Scott A. Thornhill said in a statement. “We want to promote recycling by all our residents. In St. Lawrence County 35 percent of our waste stream gets recycled. Some day, we hope to reach 65 to 70 percent.”
