Norwood man charged with impaired driving after crashing into utility pole.


NORWOOD — Evan L. Hoyt, 19, of 149 County Route 48, was charged Tuesday with driving while ability impaired and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Norwood police arrested Mr. Hoyt after he allegedly crashed his Hyundai Santa Fe into a utility pole on the corner of Park Street and Railroad Avenue about 8 p.m.Tuesday, snapping the pole in half. He was not injured in the crash.

Police said Mr. Hoyt admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening, which might have played a role in his veering off the road and striking the pole.

They said he was taken to state police barracks in Massena to be evaluated for drugs and refused a blood test for marijuana

Norwood Volunteer Fire Department, Norwood Volunteer Rescue Squad and state police also responded to the scene.

Mr. Hoyt was issued appearance tickets for Dec. 12 in Potsdam Town Court.
