A Watertown man stabbed during an early October altercation at Franklin Street and Flower Avenue East was charged with leaving two children unattended by a busy road before he engaged in an altercation with another man.

City police said Michael J. Campaney, 45, of 819 Academy St., left a 3-year-old and a 2-year-old to engage in a fight with Frank L. Cooley Jr., 25, of 373 Flower Ave. E. The children later crossed the street by themselves, though they were not harmed while doing so.

Mr. Campaney was stabbed by Mr. Cooley in the upper left torso in the incident, which took place shortly before 5 p.m. Oct. 9. Mr. Cooley was charged with second-degree assault in connection with the incident.

Police charged Mr. Campaney with endangering the welfare of a minor at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday at his residence, after waiting for him to return from a Syracuse hospital. He was released with an appearance ticket for City Court.
