Morley Holiday Rummage Sale raises money for library

CANTON — Morley has decked a hall with holly and other Christmas decorations that will be for sale this weekend.

An entire room of the Morley Fellowship Hall, 7254 County Route 27, will be full of holiday and Christmas decorations for the hamlet’s annual Holiday Rummage Sale this weekend.

The Friday and Saturday sale will include used clothing, home goods, toys, housewares, books and a variety of holiday apparel and decorations donated by community members.

The community’s giant rummage sale raises approximately $1,000 for the Morley Library Association each year, according to Pat P. Dominie, a member of the association.

Ellen A. Wisner, Canton, one of the organizers, said that through the annual sale, they’ve put a lot of money into maintaining the outside building of the library as well as building a community room inside.

“We’re trying to make this a community that gets together,” she said. “We’re trying to build community spirit.”

Ms. Wisner said that many people shop at the sale for used items they can take home and craft into original gifts for the holidays.

“People are just in the Christmas mood and they want something different,” she said. “People want to give more meaningful presents that they have made.”

The sale will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

“We will be having a bag sale after 10 a.m. Saturday,” Ms. Wisner said. “Shoppers will be able to fill a bag for $1.”
