Funeral services for Lena F. Chadwick of Ogdensburg will be held privately with her family at Foxwood Memorial Park. Lena passed away November 13, 2013 at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility where she has been a resident. Surviving are her two sons, John (Andrea) Chadwick, Statesville, N.C. and James (Allison) Chadwick, Ogdensburg, four grand-children, Andrea Kelly, Elizabeth Burns, Jamie and Joseph Chadwick, and four great-grandchildren. Lena was born on April 13, 1924 the daughter of Joseph and Helen Ferris, owners of the Ferris Clothing Store in Ogdensburg.

She married John Chadwick in 1947. He predeceased her in 1975. Lena was also pre-deceased by her brother, Richard and his wife, Hyatt Ferris. She was Valedictorian for her class at Ogdensburg Free Academy and went on to earn her B.S. and M.S. degrees at Syracuse University. Lena was a professor of accounting at Canton ATC, teaching for thirty-one years. An outstanding and beloved teacher, she received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1973-74. In addition, she was the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award in 1985. She was inducted into the SUNY Canton Hall of Fame in 2011 (this award celebrates the past, present and future of the College through the recognition of those who have made significant contributions in their work, in their communities, and in the storied history of SUNY Canton).

Lena’s passion was her flower and vegetable gardens where she spent many long days “fighting with the weeds”. Lena loved spending time with her children and grandchildren when she wasn’t traveling or walking with her beloved dog, Tika. Lena will be sadly missed. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of ones choice. Condolences can also be shared online at www.foxandmurrayfuneralhome.com
