COLTON - The town of Coltons Winterfest Planning Committee is pulling together the schedule for a diverse mix of indoor and outdoor activities being organized by organizations, businesses and individuals for its festival on Jan. 24-26.
The theme this yearJazz It Up Januarywill be highlighted by a Papadon Don Washington concert on Saturday evening following the ever-popular all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner.
The committee is organizing the concert with the help of Nick Avery, a 2013 graduate of Colton-Pierrepont Central School and protégé of Mr. Washington.
Mr. Washington, a Crane School of Music alumnus, started playing piano at age 5 and currently teaches vocal and instrumental music at CPCS.He will provide an evening of entertainment, opening with the schools jazz band and involving some elementary students before playing songs from his newest album The Blues In Me which celebrates his 40 years at the keyboard.
As a professional musician he performs around the world and is looking forward to spicing up Winterfest Weekend by sharing his love of the blues with people in the area.
Each year Winterfest activities support the Neighborhood Center serving Colton, Pierrepont and Parishville.On behalf of the planning committee Judy Brassard, owner of Three Falls Antiques & Collectibles in the hamlet of South Colton, will host a silent auction at her shop during the weekend.Artists, crafters, collectors or others wishing to contribute items for the silent auction should contact Judy by phone (315-265-2566) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
This year the planning committee hopes Winterfest enthusiasts will be inspired to check out more activities during the weekend of fun.A Passport to Winterfest is being developed with the help of the CPCS Class of 2017 and activity organizers.A number of sites will be highlighted and participants will have a chance to win gift certificates redeemable in the area.More details about the Passport will be available along with the entire schedule by the first of January.
