POTSDAM - Seniors Xiao Liang (Tianjin, China), Lani Durio (Austin, TX), and Erika Chin (Katy, TX) of the Clarkson University women’s volleyball team were chosen as AVCA All-New York Region all-stars on Thursday, and Golden Knights’ head coach Johan Dulferwas named the AVCA Regional Coach of the Year.

Only 14 student-athletes from the New York Region were chosen as First-Team members and the Golden Knights received three such honors. Liang currently ranks 13th in the country in hitting percentage at .378 and was named a Liberty League First-Team All-Star. The 6-1 middle hitter clearly impressed voters, as she swung at an incredible .428 clip against regional opponents in which Clarkson went 27-0 with an 81-4 mark in sets.

Setter Lani Durio earned the same honor as a sophomore and has excelled this season in running a diverse offense. Durio was named the Liberty League Player of the Year and is the active current leader in assists (4747) among setters in NCAA Division III. She also ranks 15th among all active players in aces (214) and is in the top 15 in both matches played and sets played.

Libero Erika Chin gained her first-ever AVCA All-Region nod this season and leads the Clarkson defensive efforts. Chin, like Durio, also ranks among all active leaders in numerous categories. Most impressively, she currently ranks fifth among all active Division III players in digs (2235) and aces (250). She, too, ranks in the top 10 among active players in matches played (149) and sets played (523).

Tacking on another honor to his resume, Johan Dulfer was picked as the AVCA New York Region Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Knights to a 33-6 record prior to the NCAA Tournament. His team was unbeaten in conference matches (14-0, including post-season) and matches against regional opponents (27-0). Clarkson also was the highest nationally ranked team among all New York teams in all but the pre-season poll, and currently sits at number-22 in the country. The Knights are 7-5 against NCAA Tournament teams, and those five losses all came to teams currently ranked in the top nine of the AVCA poll.
