CANTON — Village Mayor-Elect Mary Ann Ashley said she will appoint Brooke Rouse to fill her remaining year on the village Board of Trustees.

Absentee ballots counted Friday by the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections do not change the Nov. 5 results of the village race, Ms. Ashley said.

“The voters have spoken,” she said.

The absentee ballots increase Ms. Ashley’s total to 676 votes versus 316 for incumbent Mayor David P. Curry.

The absentee ballots also confirmed that Carol Pynchon and Michael E. Dalton were the top two vote-getters for the two trustee seats up for the grabs.

Mrs. Pynchon received 567 votes total and Mr. Dalton, 506. Mrs. Rouse came in third with 477 votes and Nicholas E. Kocher placed fourth with 351.

Ms. Ashley said it makes sense to appoint Mrs. Rouse to a trustee seat because she campaigned for the seat and received a strong showing.

Mrs. Ashley said she will appoint Mr. Dalton as deputy mayor.
