Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand, both D-N.Y., announced Friday that Robbins Family Grain, Sackets Harbor, will garner a $35,282 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to purchase an energy-efficient grain dryer.
Made possible by the USDAs Rural Development Rural Energy for America grant program, the funding will enable the farm to reduce propane emissions and streamline its operation.
Smaller farms often have difficulty affording the high cost of equipment, and thats exactly the problem this loan will help solve, Mr. Schumer said in a release. It will help them save on costs and reduce their emissions. Its a win-win for the farm and the surrounding community that will brighten the future for both.
Added Ms. Gillibrand: These federal resources to purchase an energy-efficient grain dryer will reduce propane emissions and cut costs for the farms operations. Investing in this kind of critical infrastructure is a common sense solution to supporting our small farmers and helping the environment.
