Watertown- The funeral for Joseph James Hawes will be Tuesday, November 19th, 10:30 am at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald Robinson, pastor of St. Anthonys Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, November 18th, 4pm - 7pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Hawes passed away at his residence Thursday, November 14th. He was 75 years old.
Born in Watertown January 10, 1938, he was a son to Joseph A. and M. Regina Hyland Hawes. He was educated locally, and received a diploma from Watertown High School. Following graduation, Joe attended college at Paul Smiths University and Canton ATC. On June 6, 1959, he married Patricia Munson at St. Patricks Church, Watertown.
In 1965 Mr. Hawes became a New York State Trooper, which he served at until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Hawes enjoyed golf, hunting, and working as a fishing guide for DD Charters. He was a member of Elks Lodge 496 and American Legion Post 61, both in Watertown.
Surviving besides his wife, Pat, are 2 daughters: Debra (Michael) Hays, Gouverneur, Jolene (Bryan) Owens, Louisiana; a son Timothy Hawes, Ellisburg; 3 sisters: Abbie (William) Lawyer, Brownville; Rhoda Tibbles Negron and companion Ray Butt, Evans Mills; Ellen Hawes, Watertown; 5 grandchildren, Jamie Fleming, Michael Hays II, Tad Fuller, Danielle DAgostino and Erin Powers; 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
