POTSDAM — Xiao Liang led the way with 14 kills at the Clarkson volleyball team swept Westfield State 25-12, 25-7, 25-5 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament Friday night.

Lani Durio generated 33 assists and Erika Chin produced 12 digs for the Golden Knights (34-6), who will face New York University in the regional semifinals after the Violets beat Nazareth 25-15, 25-20, 25-21.

Westfield State fell to 19-15.

In other regional games, SUNY New Paltz defeated Colby-Sawyer 25-23, 25-23, 25-16 and Richard Stockton beat Rivier 25-16, 25-23, 25-22.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

SUNY POTSDAM 71, SUNY CANTON 69

Rob Duquette posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds as the host Bears rallied past the Kangaroos in the North Country Invitational in Potsdam.

Joe Estramonte chipped in with 12 points for SUNY Potsdam (1-0).

Rashad Richardson was the high scorer for SUNY Canton (0-1) with 14 points.

SUNY FARMINGDALE 71, CLARKSON 67

Terence Henderson’s 21 points gave the Rams a win in the North Country Invitational at SUNY Potsdam.

Tim Johnson added 15 points for SUNY Farmingdale (1-0).

Potsdam native John Coleman led all scorers with 22 points (0-1).

UTICA 82, ST. LAWRENCE 81

Conor Maisch hit a pair of free throws with under 30 seconds to go as the Pioneers edged the Saints in the opening round of the Hilbert College tournament in Hamburg.

Aaron Nevins netted 17 points for Utica (1-0).

Brady Condlin led all scorers with a career-high 32 points for St. Lawrence (0-1).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SUNY OSWEGO 76, CLARKSON 60

Jenn Robbins and Paula Egelston each scored 14 points as the Lakers beat the Golden Knights in the opening round of the SUNY Oswego tournament.

Tayler Sorell added 12 points for SUNY Oswego (1-0), which will face RIT in the championship 4 p.m. today.

Cara Manfredi was the game’s high scorer with 28 points for Clarkson (0-1), which will face SUNY Cobleskill in the consolation game at noon today.

MEN’S HOCKEY

BUFFALO STATE 3, SUNY POTSDAM 2

Ryan Salkeld scored early in the third period as the Bengals overcame a two-goal deficit for a SUNYAC win over the Bears in Buffalo.

Kevin Carr collected 39 saves for Buffalo State (3-2).

Mike Arnold and Billy Pascalli registered first-period goals for SUNY Potsdam (0-5, 0-4).

SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE 6, SUNY CANTON 1

Joe Collins and Dane Caracino each tallied twice as the Penmen routed the Kangaroos in Canton.

Jay Sylvia added a goal and an assist for Southern New Hampshire (3-1-1).

Dave Schneider scored for SUNY Canton (1-3-1).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

CLARKSON 5, PROVIDENCE 1

Olivia Howe posted a goal and an assist as five different Golden Knights scored in a nonconference victory over the Friars in Potsdam.

Erica Howe stopped 17 shots for Clarkson (9-3-2).

Stephanie DeMars scored the loan goal for Providence (4-9-0).

ELMIRA 8, SUNY POTSDAM 3

Ashley Ryan scored twice as the Soaring Eagles beat the Bears in an ECAC West conference game at Potsdam.

Brooke Wilgosh chipped in with a goal and two assists for Elmira (3-1-1, 3-0-0).

Jenn Crawford’s two goals paced SUNY Potsdam (2-2-1, 1-2-1).

SUNY CANTON 1, CHATHAM 1 (OT)

Bernadette O’Connell’s goal 3:01 into the second period helped the Kangaroos forge a tie with the Cougars in a nonconference game at Pittsburgh.

Shayna Dominique stopped 28 shots for SUNY Canton (1-2-1).

Casey Morfeld scored the lone marker for Chatham (2-1-1).
