St. Mary’s annual auction in Canton continues holiday tradition with food and fun

CANTON — Looking for an evening that combines fun, fine food and festive holiday gifts?

All those and more will be offered at St. Mary’s School’s annual Auction Night, starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium.

Tickets are $15 each in advance and $20 at the door. The price includes a bidding number, adult beverages, fancy hors d’oeuvres made by Sue Law and a chance to win door prizes.

Judith A. Bailey, co-chairwoman, said the auction has been successful each year since 2004 thanks to the continued support from area businesses and community members.

“This is a major fundraiser that provides operating support for the school,” Mrs. Bailey said. “We’re coming into a busy time, and this event helps kick off the holiday season.”

More than 200 auction items are donated each year by individuals and businesses in the Canton-Potsdam area. They range from gift certificates and services to jewelry, artwork and furniture. This year’s offerings include season tickets to St. Lawrence University hockey games for the 2014-15 season, framed photography, housewares, toys, baked goods and much more. A global positioning system device and fitness center memberships also will be up for grabs.

“There’s really a range of prices so that every one can find something,” Mrs. Bailey said.

Appetizers are served by volunteers from SUNY Canton.

This year, classroom theme baskets will be sold during the live auction rather than the silent auction. Class basket themes include pampering, baby, family fun, gift wrapping, tea and coffee lovers, chocolate lovers and Adirondack.

Live music will be provided by A Fine Line.
