Carthage Board of Education to seek capital reserve fund input Wednesday

WEST CARTHAGE — The Carthage Central School District Board of Education is seeking community input on establishing a capital reserve fund that would be used in future capital projects.

“We’re going to ask questions about establishing a capital reserve fund, how they feel about that and how they feel about doing a smaller security-type project,” District Superintendent Peter J. Turner said.

The board of education will meet with community members in a public forum Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria.

At their Nov. 4 meeting, board members considered the option of establishing the fund. However, the conversation was tabled and members said they wanted to hear from the community before making any decisions.

The option of a potential small-scale capital project that would focus on building security at district facilities was pitched.

“Most current entrance doors don’t have mechanisms and the hardware to be able to put in an electronic entry system. As the doorways are not capable of being converted, whole new doors would have to be put in,” Mr. Turner explained.

There are six buildings to be considered, including the high school, middle school, Black River Elementary, West Carthage Elementary, Carthage Elementary and the Great Bend facility.

After the board weighs responses from district residents, the forum will be opened for general discussions as it has been in the past.

WWNY-7News anchor Jeff Cole will serve as moderator.
