LOWVILLE — The Lewis County Historical Society over the next couple of weekends is once again opening its doors for the holiday season, starting tomorrow.

The 11th annual Home For The Holidays Festival will be held from Thursday through Sunday at society headquarters, 7556 S. State St., then again the following weekend, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

“This is a free event open to the public,” said society board member Carmen A. Sweet.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 30 and 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 1.

The event will also include a gingerbread house contest — with many of them concocted by culinary students at the Howard G. Sackett Technical Center in Glenfield — along with numerous decorations and displays, like Jim Randall’s Lionel train display. This will likely be the last year Mr. Randall sets up that display, which this year includes scenes from the Lewis County Fair, Halloween Towne and Christmas.

The annual festival will once again include a silent auction of Christmas trees — expected to total around 15 this year — and wreaths decorated by local businesses, organizations and other friends of the society, along with roughly 30 raffle items.

New this year, some school classes, businesses and organizations have donated stockings filled with toys and other items — like coffee products from Café Z — that will also be sold by silent auction, Mr. Sweet said.

The gift shop also offers a wide variety of local historical books and items, with all proceeds going to benefit the historical society.

An additional event this year will be a Red Hatters Christmas tea from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1. It will include hors d’oeuvres, dessert, punch, coffee and tea at a cost of $10 apiece. For reservations, call the society at 376-8957.
