Dexter, New York- Leona M. Simpson, 79, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family after her long battle with cancer.
She was born August 1, 1934 of the late Guy and Dora Manning Yerdon in Hammond, NY. She worked as a cashier for Grants Drug in Watertown for many years, she also worked several years as a cook at various establishments.
On January 18, 1970 she married Purley Simpson in Depauville, NY.
Leona loved to cook, bake, spend time with her family and had a great love for her church and going to church.
She is survived by three sons, Tony (Stella) Murray, Alexandria Bay, NY, Michael Murray, Gouverneur, NY, and Purley Simpson, Dexter, NY; a brother, Wendell Yerdon, Cape Vincent, NY; a sister, Shelva Gillette, Brownville, NY; 11 Grandchildren; 9
Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased a daughter, Linda Gregory; and three brothers, Nile, Joseph, and Ray Yerdon.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23, at 11:00 AM at the Christian Lifecenter Church, Chaumont, NY with Pastor Jim Hayes officiating. There will be a reception to follow at the same church.
