LOWVILLE Long-distance telephone service in the Lewis County area was interrupted Wednesday morning by an apparent fiber cut.
A cut in a Verizon line apparently occurred somewhere between Boonville and Utica, according to a spokeswoman from Frontier Communication.
However, she had no further information on the situation or the extent of disruption, and a call to Verizon media relations was not returned.
The event also knocked out service to many Lewis County government telephones, including most at the Public Safety Building, but 911 service was not affected, according to dispatchers.
However, the issue appeared to have been rectified by early Wednesday evening.
